TORCH FOR MEDICINE

Angel Leake Worthy, MD, MBA has been an Infectious Diseases Specialist in Chicago, Illinois for the past 16 years. She obtained her Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Illinois, College of Medicine at Chicago and completed her Infectious Diseases fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital/Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Leake Worthy actively promotes health and well-being among African Americans and other disenfranchised minorities and their families who have been affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.   She seizes every opportunity (either through a casual conversation or speaking engagements) to educate, uplift, and empower the African American community on the importance of HIV testing and prevention strategies. She has seen first-hand the devastation this disease has on our community and is passionately making changes to close the disparity gap.

Most recently, Dr. Leake Worthy has been a strong advocate for health care accessibility during the Covid-19 Pandemic. She has worked tirelessly with governmental agencies (City of Chicago and Illinois), hospitals, clinics, and community organizations to ensure just and equitable access to testing, treatment, and prevention via vaccination. She spent her evenings tracking Coronavirus trends and implementing virtual workshops to educate the community at large.

She also spends her time as an active member of New Life Covenant Church Southeast, Infectious Diseases Society of America and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Dr. Angel Leake Worthy finds her true joy in her faith and in family.  Her family’s life vision is based upon the “the Promises of the Lord [which] can be trusted; they are as genuine as silver refined seven times in the furnace.” Psalm 12:6.
