Mission Statement


Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority's aim is to enhance the quality of life within the community. Public service, leadership development, and education of youth are the hallmark of the organization's programs and activities. Sigma Gamma Rho addresses concerns that impact educationally, civically, and economically.


 
SIGMA HISTORY


Sigma Gamma Rho was founded on November 12, 1922, by seven educators at Butler University in Indianapolis Indiana.  In December of 1929, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority was incorporated to provide permanence and a central office to serve all chapters.  Hundreds of undergraduate and graduate chapters have since been established throughout the country.  Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. gives leadership, service and resources toward removing all barriers and inequalities so that all people of America, especially of the Black community, may develop their potential and exercise full citizenship.
